About Peter

Cape Town based photographer Peter Russell started dabbling in photography whilst still in high school, learning the basics of black and white developing and printing as a member of the schools photographic society.

After completing school he studied graphic design for a year before realising his passion was photography upon which he enrolled at Cape Town University of Technology where he completed a 3 year National Diploma in Photography.

Working firstly in the Cape Town film industry where he gained valuable "on-set" work experience. He then sought more experience in the stills industry often working with some of the best fashion and advertising photographers in the world and got to travel to London, New York, Miami, California and Cyprus on shoots. It was through travelling that he was also introduced to video as a medium to document his experiences.

Shooting his first wedding as a student, Peter has been able to use the increasingly popular "reportage style" to capturing weddings along with his experience in the fashion industry to create his own unique style.

As a keen surfer, he has combined his love for the sport and photography, capturing the culture and action for more than ten years. His work has featured in Surfer Magazine, Amped, Blunt, Locally Whipped, Saltwater Girl, African Surfrider, Zigzag and The Bomb surf magazines.
